A. One-sided swelling in a newborn can be caused by various factors, including: Mastitis or Breast Engorgement: If you're breastfeeding, the baby may have swollen breast tissue due to the mother's hormones. This can sometimes cause swelling on one side of the baby’s chest. Cyst or Fluid Accumulation: Occasionally, newborns develop small cysts, such as sebaceous cysts or other benign fluid-filled sacs, which could lead to localized swelling. Infection or Inflammation: A mild infection could cause swelling on one side, especially if the baby is dealing with an ear or eye infection. Positional Swelling: Newborns sometimes develop mild swelling in certain body parts due to their position during sleep or being held for long periods. It’s important to monitor the swelling and if it persists, increases in size, or is accompanied by redness, warmth, or any signs of pain, it’s best to consult your pediatrician to rule out any underlying issues and get a proper diagnosis.
