POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy5 months agoA. At 12.5 months, a weight of 8.6 kg is slightly on the lower side, but if your baby is active, reaching milestones, and generally healthy, it may not be a major concern. To help increase weight, focus on offering nutrient-dense, high-calorie foods in small, frequent meals. Include foods like mashed potatoes with ghee, banana, full-fat curd, dal-khichdi with a spoon of ghee, boiled eggs (if non-vegetarian), paneer, and avocado. You can also try dry fruits powder mixed in porridge or milk. Avoid force-feeding, and let your baby self-feed to build interest in food. Limit milk intake to around 400–500 ml per day, so they stay hungry for solids. If your baby is still breastfeeding, continue, but make sure solids are offered before milk. Most importantly, stay calm and patient—some babies are naturally slow eaters or have smaller appetites. If the weight gain remains slow or your child seems dull or inactive, it’s best to consult your pediatrician for a personalized growth assessment.
