once in a day is enough.
initially ,I advise to give liquid diet like dal Pani , rice water in few spoons of quantity.
once baby feel comfortable with it ,you can add other food items like porrdige, different vegetables and fruits puree etc in your child diet.
and increase it's quantity, consistency and frequency too
