#AskTheExpert my 2.7 year old boy have reccuring hoarsenes after one or two months... what should be do? what is reason for this?

A. Avoid yelling and screaming. Reason: it causes vocal cord strain.Have your child try to talk as little as possible. He or she can also write notes for a few days.Also, avoid clearing the throat. Reason: it can make hoarseness worse. An infant may be born with a deformity of the larynx (voice box), or a nerve problem causing hoarseness. In many cases, there may be STRIDOR or noisy breathing as well. These causes of hoarseness can include vocal cord paralysis, laryngomalacia, cysts, webs (a membrane blocking the opening) or clefts in the voice box.
