A. Start to encourage baby to sleep down without you holding him or her. If he or she wakes up or cries to be picked up, resist the urge to pick him or her right away. It is worth a few tries to see if baby is willing. Eventually, the baby will get hang of it. Switch off holding baby with your partner. Let the baby sleep in the same space as often as possible. Predictability for your baby means that they can get into the nap groove and will not become too stimulated, thereby foregoing sleep, when they otherwise might have napped. A dark room will go a long way because light is essential to helping our brains know that it is time to sleep. Make some white noise to help drown out any noises around the house that will prevent them from napping longer or bridging between sleep cycles.
