#AskTheExpert I am mother of a 6 month old baby boy. My doctor suggested - Not to give sugar and salt till baby turns 1 ? Does it mean we should hive bland food to our babies ? Can we use jaggery or mishri instead?

A. yes give bland food. Babies doesn't know sweet or salt taste unless we introduce it. So do not worry the food is bland. Sweetening of food/porridges are not recommended even it is with fruits, jaggery, dates, etc

A. u can add fruit purees, carrot puree sweet potato for adding natural sweetness.... Avoid sugar completely till one year... u can start using bit of salt and jagerry once baby is 7 month old

A. Babies can have jaggery as soon as they start eating solids, which is around the age of six months. However, the appropriate age may vary for each baby. Therefore, consult a doctor or pediatric nutritionist to know the right age to introduce jaggery to your baby.
