Cough along with Cold most of the time is a  viral illness and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration. you can give steam inhalation which is very useful .
cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be given only after a proper evaluation by thgfe doctor according to the type of cough.
if fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the fever and the dose can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .

This can occur due to either allergy or infection and some times due to weather changes. 
For cold you can give syp maxtra 2.5 ml to the child 2 times per day. 
try to prevent temperature variations around the child and give nasal saline drops every three hourly for nasal blockage and simple cough and cold.

Go for home remedies like Tulsi Ginger water combination and turjmeric with milk at least 2 times per day.

Give warm water to drink

If no improvement in 2 or 3 days then meet your doctor
