Offer colourful foods in colourful plates and cut foods into different shapes using food cutters to make them look attractive so as to capture the attention of the kid. Give a bowl and a spoon to the kid. Let the kid play with the food and make a mess. This is how he will learn to eat independently with a spoon while playing, touching and finally tasting the food. Offer small portions of food and give more only when the kid asks for more. Give his favourite foods along with the new foods that you want to introduce in his diet.
