A. Flat nipples can make breastfeeding challenging, but there are ways to help your baby latch properly: 1. Stimulate and Pull Out the Nipple Before feeding, roll your nipple gently between your fingers or use a cold compress to help it protrude. You can also try using a nipple puller or breast pump for a few minutes before feeding to draw out the nipple. 2. Try Different Breastfeeding Positions The football hold or cross-cradle hold can help your baby latch better. Gently press the breast above the areola to encourage the nipple to come out. 3. Use a Nipple Shield (If Needed) A nipple shield can help your baby latch if they are struggling. However, it should be used temporarily and under a lactation consultant's guidance. 4. Express Breast Milk If latching is difficult, express milk using a breast pump and feed it through a cup, spoon, or bottle. 5. Get Help If Needed If your baby is not latching or feeding well, consult a lactation consultant or pediatrician to ensure proper feeding and weight gain. Keep trying, and don’t lose hope—many moms with flat nipples successfully breastfeed with practice and support!
