Try Different Breastfeeding Positions The football hold or cross-cradle hold can help your baby latch better. Gently press the breast above the areola to encourage the nipple to come out. 3. Use a Nipple Shield (If Needed) A nipple shield can help your baby latch if they are struggling. However, it should be used temporarily and under a lactation consultant's guidance. 4. Express Breast Milk If latching is difficult, express milk using a breast pump and feed it through a cup, spoon, or bottle. 5. Get Help If Needed If your baby is not latching or feeding well, consult a lactation consultant or pediatrician to ensure proper feeding and weight gain.
