A. If your baby's palms feel warmer than the rest of the body, it could be due to a few reasons: 1. Normal Temperature Regulation: Babies have immature systems for regulating body temperature. Sometimes, their extremities (like hands and feet) may feel warmer or cooler than the body, which is normal and typically balances out over time. 2. Fever: If the body is normal but the palms are significantly warmer, it could indicate the beginning of a fever. You should check your baby's overall temperature using a thermometer. A fever can sometimes be localized to certain areas of the body before it spreads throughout. 3. Circulation: Sometimes, if the baby's circulation is more focused in the palms and soles, those areas may feel warmer. This is typically normal, especially in infants, as their circulatory system matures. 4. Environmental Factors: If the baby has been wrapped in clothes or blankets that are too warm, or if the room temperature is high, the palms may feel warmer. Always check if your baby is overdressed or the room is too hot. What to Do: Monitor Temperature: Use a thermometer to check your baby's body temperature. If the temperature is above 100.4°F (38°C), it could indicate a fever, and you should consult a doctor. Check for Other Symptoms: Look for any signs of discomfort, such as restlessness, poor feeding, or lethargy, which might indicate illness. Adjust Clothing: Ensure your baby is not overdressed. Keep the room temperature moderate (around 22-24°C or 72-75°F). If the warmth persists or is accompanied by other symptoms like fever, lethargy, or irritability, it is best to consult with a pediatrician.
