POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy7 months agoA. At six months, your baby is ready to start solid foods, along with continued breastfeeding or formula feeding. This is an exciting milestone in your baby's development! Here’s a guide for introducing food after six months:
Start with Single-Grain Cereals: Begin with single-grain baby cereals like rice cereal or oatmeal. Mix with breast milk or formula to get a smooth consistency.
Introduce Pureed Fruits and Vegetables: Gradually introduce pureed fruits like apple, banana, or pear, and vegetables like sweet potato, pumpkin, or carrot. Always ensure the food is soft and mashed or blended to a smooth consistency.
Introduce Protein: After a few weeks, you can introduce pureed meats like chicken, turkey, or lentils. Make sure the protein is cooked well and pureed.
Introduce Finger Foods: Around 7-8 months, your baby may start to explore finger foods like small pieces of soft fruits, cooked vegetables, or small chunks of bread or crackers.
Watch for Allergies: When introducing new foods, wait about 3-5 days before adding another new food to watch for any allergic reactions like rashes, diarrhea, or vomiting.
Avoid Certain Foods: Avoid honey, whole nuts, and foods that can be choking hazards. It’s also important to avoid cow’s milk as a primary drink until the baby is 12 months old.
Remember that every baby is different, so go at your baby’s pace and consult your pediatrician if you have concerns. Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding as it remains an essential part of their diet for the first year.
