Q.

#askdoctors Hi Dr! My daughter is 8 months old. Her birth weight was 2.5 kgs which at times make me concerned as I keep hearing from people that your baby looks weak. My only question is even after starting solids there is no drastic change is her weight though she has always been on the lower side of weight range as per her age group. Is this normal?

A. Skinny look may be due to genetic reasons. If father or mother was skinny during their childhood then she could also be getting the same physique. So as long as the baby is taking feeds and eating properly, poops and pees regularly and is active and healthy you need not worry much about the weight. You can give banana, potatoes, sweet potatoes and continue feeding breastmilk or formula. You can add homemade ghee in babys regular meals. You can also give warm rice mixed with curd. All these could help weight gain.
