A. Cow's milk is not recommended as a primary drink for babies under the age of one year. Here's why: 1. **Nutritional Composition:** Cow's milk does not contain all the necessary nutrients in the right proportions for a baby's growth and development, especially during the first year of life. 2. **Digestibility:** The proteins and minerals in cow's milk can be difficult for a baby's immature digestive system to handle, potentially leading to gastrointestinal issues like irritation or blood loss in the intestines. 3. **Iron Absorption:** Cow's milk can interfere with the absorption of iron in a baby's body, which is essential for healthy brain development. Instead of cow's milk, infants should be breastfed or formula-fed exclusively for the first six months of life, with the introduction of solid foods starting around six months. After the age of six months, small amounts of plain, pasteurized cow's milk can be used in cooking or mixed with solid foods, but it should not replace breast milk or formula as the primary source of nutrition. At around one year of age, you can start introducing whole cow's milk as a main drink. However, it's essential to consult with your pediatrician before making the switch to ensure your baby is ready and to discuss any specific concerns or recommendations based on your baby's health and development.
