A. At 6 months, babies are ready to start solid foods in addition to breast milk or formula. Here are some suitable food options and guidelines for a 6-month-old baby: 1. First Foods: Rice Cereal: Start with iron-fortified rice cereal mixed with breast milk or formula to make it smooth. Pureed Vegetables: Soft, well-cooked vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, or peas. Make sure to puree them and serve them in small amounts. Pureed Fruits: Apple, pear, banana, or avocado. These can be mashed or pureed to a smooth texture. 2. Other Food Options: Oatmeal: Pureed or finely ground oats can be a good option. Dal (Lentils): Soft-cooked and pureed lentils can be introduced to your baby. Make sure it's blended to a smooth texture. Mashed potatoes: Soft, boiled potatoes can be mashed and given to your baby. 3. Textures: Start with pureed or very smooth textures, and gradually increase the texture as your baby becomes more accustomed to solids. 4. Introducing New Foods: Introduce one new food at a time and wait 3-4 days to check for any allergic reactions. Avoid honey, salt, and sugar for the first year. 5. Breast Milk/Formula: Continue breastfeeding or formula feeding, as this should still be the main source of nutrition for your baby. Tips: Start small: Begin with a teaspoon or two and gradually increase as your baby gets used to the new food. Watch for signs: Look for signs that your baby is ready for solids like sitting up with support, showing interest in food, and bringing hands to the mouth. Consult with your pediatrician if you have concerns or need guidance on introducing specific foods.
