Basaveshwara Name Meaning

The name Basaveshwara is of Hindu origin and is predominantly found in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. It is a combination of the words "Basava," which refers to Lord Shiva, and "eshwara," meaning "lord" or "god." Thus, Basaveshwara can be translated as "Lord Shiva" or "God of the land."

Basaveshwara is also the name of a highly revered and influential 12th-century philosopher, social reformer, and saint from Karnataka. Known as Basavanna or Basaveshwara, he founded the Lingayatism movement, which aimed to eradicate the rigid caste system prevalent in Hindu society at that time.
