What Matters the Most About Parenting

Ishaan’s dad is currently the sole breadwinner of the family, which means he is away most of the times. In a day, he hardly gets a few minutes to spend with Ishaan. I, on the other hand, am the lucky one be with Ishaan all the time. Well, almost all the time. Ishaan is five months old now and thanks to the lockdown, my husband gets to spend some time with him.

It was late at night. I put Ishaan to sleep and went to the kitchen to close some pending chores. My husband was lying on a recliner next to the bed and busy watching some random Facebook videos. I heard Ishaan’s cry and ran back to the room to find him being held by my husband. He was trying to calm him down. I quickly switched on the light to see if he was okay. The moment Ishaan saw me, he smiled with tears still in his eyes, and he ran towards me. I will never forget that moment in my life.

I held him close to myself and patted him, saying he was safe and okay. He instantly calmed down. My husband felt a little bad, which I totally understand. Getting clothes and toys is not the only way to show your love. What matters the most is when we show them how much we love them and how much they mean to us, by spending time with them.

My routine is mostly tedious, but no matter what, I always try to greet him with a smile and soothing words whenever I am about to lift him in my arms. It really does have an impact and his warm smile in return just melts my heart. Being a mom is hard, I know. But, when it comes to our kids, they grow up so fast we hardly get the time to capture memories. Just remember, you don’t need to be a perfect mom, just a happy one! At the end of the day, a mom can never be replaced.
