POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy4 years agoA. Just don’t have any sweets in the house. Or, if you do, keep them hidden where said toddler never knows about them.
He may not eat much. Give it a couple of days. He won’t starve. Your toddler will start to eat the appropriate amount of real food. It’s automatic. He might complain and scream and throw his food on the wall. He will get hungry though, and then he will eat. He will eat dirt and dead bugs and lead paint chips if that’s all that’s available. I promise he will eat real, healthy food, no problem, if he doesn’t have sweets as an alternative. He may seem to eat less than before, which may seem alarming, until you realize that he was probably over eating when sweets were involved and still not getting the best nutrition. Put as much real, varied, food in front of your toddler as he wants to eat, and just let nature take its course. If he doesn’t eat much supper tonight, he will likely eat more breakfast tomorrow.
Obviously, if he goes without eating for several days and starts to lose weight, something is wrong, and he should see the doctor. Otherwise, take it from a father of three healthy kids - hide the sweets, and the kid will automatically eat as much healthy food as he needs. It doesn’t even matter if the food tastes good. He will adapt to the taste.
