A. Starting solid foods for a baby usually begins around 6 months of age. Here are some recommended starter foods: ### **1. **Single-Grain Cereals** - **Examples**: Rice cereal, oatmeal, barley. - **Preparation**: Mix with breast milk, formula, or water to a smooth consistency. ### **2. **Pureed Vegetables** - **Examples**: Carrots, sweet potatoes, peas, squash. - **Preparation**: Steam or cook until soft, then blend until smooth. ### **3. **Pureed Fruits** - **Examples**: Apples, bananas, pears, peaches. - **Preparation**: Cook (if needed) and blend until smooth. ### **4. **Pureed Meats** - **Examples**: Chicken, turkey, beef. - **Preparation**: Cook thoroughly, then blend or mash until smooth. ### **5. **Mashed or Pureed Legumes** - **Examples**: Lentils, chickpeas. - **Preparation**: Cook until soft and blend or mash. ### **6. **Yogurt** - **Types**: Plain, full-fat yogurt. - **Preparation**: Serve plain or mix with fruit purees. ### **7. **Iron-Fortified Cereals** - **Examples**: Commercially available iron-fortified cereals for babies. - **Preparation**: Mix with breast milk or formula for a smoother consistency. ### **Tips for Introducing Solids:** - **Start Slowly**: Introduce one new food at a time and wait 3-5 days before adding another to check for allergies or sensitivities. - **Consistency**: Begin with smooth purees and gradually move to more textured foods as the baby grows. - **Observe Reactions**: Watch for any signs of allergies or intolerances. Always consult with your pediatrician before starting solid foods to ensure they are appropriate for your baby’s developmental stage and health.
