DivyaMom of a 4 yr 3 m old boy3 years agoA. The early days of weaning, it can be common for babies to become constipated for a few days whilst their digestive system adapts to having food. This normally settles once their digestive system adjusts to regularly having solid food
As babies are weaned to solid foods, their poo will change in colour and smell. The frequency may again change. Generally, your baby's poo will become thicker, darker and smellier. You will notice that your baby's stools will alter depending upon what you have fed him.
If your baby becomes constipated, use whole wheat or barley cereal instead of rice cereal and avoid bananas and sweet potatoes, which are constipating. All the fruits which begin with “P” (prunes, plums, pears, peaches) will help soften your baby's stool, so give them often if your baby is having hard stools.
