Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. pillows are usually not required by children.
if they are comfortable using one then you may use but see that the neck is not more bending due to it.
also flat head will not be cured by usage of pillows.
meet your dr for more information
due to pressure on one side of the head during sleeping there is flatness / abnormal shape on that side of the head.
no treatment is required for flat head / bumpy head and you will see that by one year to two years of age the flat head will go away as soon as the child begins to sit and later walk.
pillows will not help much in this case so do not worry.
the bones in the skull are elastic so to give space to the growing brain it takes different shape and when the growth of the brain occurs properly then gradually they will take a normal shape. x
at your level you can give different sleeping position to the child. also give tummy time more often which will also decrease the pressure on the back of the head.
POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. Head-shaping pillows, often used to prevent or correct flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly), are generally recommended for use during the first few months of a baby's life. Here’s a general guideline:
1. **Age Range**: These pillows are typically used from birth until around 4 to 6 months of age. By this time, many babies start to change their sleeping positions, and the risk of flat head syndrome decreases.
2. **Transition**: As babies grow and start spending more time on their stomachs and moving their heads more during playtime, the need for a head-shaping pillow usually diminishes.
3. **Consultation**: Always follow your pediatrician's advice regarding the use of head-shaping pillows. They can provide specific recommendations based on your baby's needs and developmental progress.
4. **Alternatives**: Encourage supervised tummy time and varied sleep positions while your baby is awake to help promote normal head shape and overall development.
If you have concerns about your baby's head shape or the use of a head-shaping pillow, consult your pediatrician for personalized guidance.
