Q.

Ridhaan has not passed stool since 3 days and before that he passed stool in 7 days and he cries alot in night for 2-3 hrs, Dr advised him to take lactulose to give him comfort , Is it safe ? should we take it or not ?

A. Constipation in Babies less than 1 year is very common and more in formula fed babies and also when initially the semi solid food has been started after 6 months . you can give bonnisan drops and some enzyme preparations in propehjkr dose suggested by doctor and cow's milk should be avoided before 1 year of age . Medications are required but it should be given only in medical supervision .

A. Yes it is safe but I would like to tell you two things over here that constipation is normal and this age of the child is passing sufficient amount of urine and taking all the feeds properly then constipation is not a problem and secondly where you said that the child is constantly crying it’s mostly because of stomach pain so you can give Himalaya Bonnisan five drops maximum four times if needed and see there no other medication would be required
