Father of a 7 yr old girl3 years ago
Q.

Our baby of 3 years 6 months old suffering from high fever for two days. Doctor told us that WBC count is around 17000 so that is the reason for the same, and treated with antibiotics. Now she is recovered from fever and tested WBC count around 8500. But went for D-Dimer test even as suggested by doctor, it seems that result is much higher than normal range. Please suggest us is this causes a problem ?

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a doseft of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adefquate fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .

A. hi dear Encourage your child to rest and drink plenty of fluids. Medication isn't needed. Call the doctor if your child seems unusually irritable or lethargic or complains of significant discomfort. If your child seems uncomfortable, give your child acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others).
