A. hi dear If a bacterial infection is suspected, your newborn baby will be given antibiotics. As infections in the newborn baby can be very serious and require quick and effective antibiotic treatment, the antibiotics are given as an intravenous (IV) infusion. The IV is a hollow tube that sits in a vein.
