HomeQuestions & AnswersNeed advice: Cervical length 2.7 cm at 23+4 weeks – cerclage or observe?
Hi everyone,
I’m 23w4d pregnant and need some clarity about my cervical length.
Previous scans (abdominal):
NT scan (12 weeks): Cervical length ~3.2 cm (abdominal)
Anomaly scan (20 weeks): Cervical length ~3.2 cm (abdominal)
Current scan (transvaginal):
Multiple measurements:
2.82 cm
2.70 cm
2.66 cm
3.09 cm
Final TVCL: 2.7 cm
Internal os: closed
No funneling
On vaginal progesterone
My doctor said this is a significant drop of 0.5 cm and recommended immediate cerclage.
However, I’m unsure because:
Earlier measurements were abdominal, which tend to be longer than transvaginal,
So I’m not sure if this is a true “drop” or just a measurement technique difference.
My questions:
1. Is 2.7 cm at 23+4 weeks considered high-risk?
2. Is it normal for abdominal measurements to differ from TV measurements?
3. Should I get a cerclage immediately or take a second opinion from an MFM?
4. Can the cervix remain stable around 2.7 cm until 28 weeks?
Any experiences or expert opinions would really help calm my mind. Thank you.

RashmiMom of a 11 yr 2 m old girl1 week agoA. See the weight is reducing down it is a matter of concern you have to understand that that civic length right now is not very good I would not say it very less also but it should be better than this because this is something which reduces over the period when you are almost getting into your labour or ready for delivery so 2.7 is little less as per the current situation of your pregnancy so I believe it would be better that you get done what your doctor advising you to take proper rest and have good diet and avoid taking stress anxiety and also good rest is going to be good for your body
