A. A white coating on your son's tongue could be due to several reasons, including: Oral Thrush (Fungal Infection) – A common yeast infection that appears as white patches on the tongue and inside the mouth. It may cause discomfort or mild pain. Poor Oral Hygiene – If food particles or bacteria accumulate on the tongue, it can form a white coating. Dehydration or Dry Mouth – Not drinking enough water can lead to a dry mouth, which may cause a white tongue. Excessive Milk or Dairy Consumption – Sometimes, dairy products can leave a white coating on the tongue. Viral or Bacterial Infection – Certain infections, such as strep throat or a cold, can cause a white tongue. Oral Ulcers or Sores – If there are other symptoms like pain or redness, an ulcer might be the cause. What You Can Do: Ensure he drinks plenty of water. Encourage proper oral hygiene (brushing teeth and tongue). Offer probiotic-rich foods like yogurt if thrush is suspected. If the white coating doesn't wipe off, is accompanied by fever, pain, or redness, consult a pediatrician.
