HomeQuestions & AnswersMy son is 1 year 10 month old. He is not getting proper sleep. From past 3 weeks he would wake up after 6-7 hours and will be awake for 2-3 hours. He wants to sleep but can not. And he will sleep only if we continue patting on his back. The moment we stop he would wake. It goes on for almost 2-3 hours and then he will finally sleep for another 4-5 hours. He won't eat or drink milk also in those 2-3 hours.
Another pattern is we will wake him up after 7 hours if he is not sleeping, and after 1 hour I will give him breakfast, and he will play for 3 hours almost and sleep. And again he will sleep in late afternoon or evening. Both times it will be 1- 1:30 hours. So total almost 10 hours for the day.
Last pattern, he would keep waking up every 30 min or 1 hour whole night. We need to pat him or sometimes he would cry with stomach pain and we will hold him to calm down. And he will sleep fine in last 4-5 hours in morning.
The whole point explaining this is, I am worried about his sleeps. He should get proper sleep. At first I thought it would go on its own. But its taking longer. Just wants to know why this is happening, what to do, and is it normal?

A. Hello mom you have to start try to make a routine for him , and plan out the day , try to reduce his day naps to not to but one if possible . Make him involve in plays - running around , dancing , some outdoor games if possible or play games , read books to him which can also be done as the bedtime routine as well .
Give him a filling dinner and also animal or plant source milk can be given before bedtime . Massages will also be helpful as well . Avoid packaged foods now he can be given regular foods that are made at home for the family

A. Thank you for responding. I am already doing this all what you've suggested. And baby is also full day active. Only thing is that I let him sleep in afternoon until he wake up on his own. Even if more than 2 hours.
