Q.

My son is 1 month 7 days old and he gets hiccups everyday for 3-4 times which lasts for 5-10 minutes after feeding or sometimes without feeding. What could be the reason and how to prevent it.

A. Newborn hiccups are most frequently caused by baby overfeeding, eating too quickly or swallowing a lot of air. “Any of these things can lead to stomach distention,” dr says. When the stomach distends it actually pushes against the diaphragm, which causes it to spasm, and voilà—hiccups!
