Q.

My son is 1.5 years old but his weight is 9 KG only, but his height is fine. Is this something I should be worried about? He only drink's mother's milk and eats most of the foods. he is also very active and smart. His birth weight was 2.2 KG. What should I do to increase his weight?

A. Dear mum, weight of 9 kg is slightly on the lower side for 1.5 years old boy, however by few grams and so you should not be concerned. If your child is active, playful and achieving all growth milestones then it indicates good health. For healthy weight gain, give homemade balanced diet having variety of food groups especially seasonal fruits and vegetables even green leafy vegetables. At least 500 ml of milk every day including milk products like curd, paneer, cheese and breast milk. You can give eggs and non veg foods. Add dry fruits and nuts to baby’s diet. Add ghee to baby’s food. Continue to breastfeed till 2 years.
