A. To calm your baby while coughing, you can try the following: 1. **Comforting touch**: Gently pat or rub your baby's back or chest to provide comfort and support while they cough. 2. **Steamy environment**: Take your baby into a steamy bathroom or use a cool-mist humidifier in their room to help soothe their airways and ease coughing. 3. **Elevate their head**: If your baby is lying down, elevate their head slightly with a pillow or by raising the head of their crib mattress to help ease coughing. 4. **Offer fluids**: Offer breast milk, formula, or water if your baby is on solids to help keep them hydrated and soothe their throat. 5. **Use saline drops**: Saline nasal drops can help loosen mucus and alleviate congestion, which may be contributing to coughing. 6. **Stay calm**: Your baby can pick up on your emotions, so staying calm and reassuring can help them feel more secure and relaxed during coughing episodes. 7. **Consult a pediatrician**: If your baby's cough is persistent, severe, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, such as difficulty breathing or fever, consult their pediatrician for further evaluation and guidance. Remember that coughing can be a natural reflex to clear the airways, but if you're ever unsure or concerned about your baby's cough, it's best to seek advice from a healthcare professional.
