Q.

my new born baby has tsh 0.61,Free T4 2.19.she is tested on her 4th day and birth weight is 3.1kg. is this low level of TSH is cause of concern?

A. Namaste Mom, The levels been low may occur mainly in some 3 to 6 % babies, and this indicates thyroid insufficinecy , and quite commonly observed with preterm babies or incase they are ill.. Normally it indicates Hypothroidism But for confirmation after a follow up, so repeat the test after a few weeks only

A. She usually if it is low or more than the referral ring and it is a problem but it an early age it’s a really early age to determine anything so I would recommend you not to give any medicine as of now and you repeat that test maybe after a month or two that is going to give you a rather clear picture
