Q.
My kid name is Hananiah. He is 4 years old. since child whenever he gets cold during night he cannot sleep properly because of blocked nose, snoring and sometimes he gets foam from mouth. we stay in Qatar. 2 days back we took him to hospital, did x ray and doctor diagnosed it as Adenoid hypertrophy and advised nasal spray for 1 month. After 1 month he advised to visit again. Is this Adenoid hypertrophy serious long term problem for my son? Does it go away with medication? pls advise

Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy2 years agoA. many times adenoids and tonsils are enlarged due to recurrent viral or bacterial infections as well as in allergic cough and cold.
you have to just control recurrent cough and cold due to any of the reasons and the child will not have more than reasonable increase in size of adenoid and tonsils.
any surgical intervention is required only if the child is having difficulty in breathing as well as difficulty in swallowing and difficulty in sleeping at night.
many times nebulization as well as inhalation sprays are given to decrease the size and you can follow your doctor in this.x
it is advisable to give flu vaccination to the child which will help in decreasing the chancesx of viral fever as well as viral cough and cold
