A. It can be concerning when your child has a reduced appetite. Here are some suggestions to help improve your 4-year-old son’s eating habits: 1. Encourage a Routine: Maintain consistent meal and snack times. Avoid giving too many snacks or liquids (like juices) between meals as they can reduce his hunger. 2. Make Meals Fun: Present food in fun shapes or designs to make it appealing. Involve him in meal preparation; he may be more interested in eating what he helped make. 3. Introduce Milk Alternatives: If he doesn’t like plain milk, offer alternatives like yogurt, cheese, smoothies, or almond/soy milk. Blend fruits into smoothies to include both milk and fruits. 4. Encourage Fruits: Cut fruits into bite-sized pieces and offer them with a dip (like yogurt or peanut butter). Serve fruits in creative ways, like fruit kebabs or in a colorful fruit salad. 5. Increase Food Nutrient Density: Add nuts, seeds, or grated cheese to his meals to boost the calorie and nutrient content. Opt for whole grains, legumes, and proteins like eggs, chicken, or paneer. 6. Limit Distractions: Avoid screens or toys during meals. Encourage family meals so he sees others eating. 7. Be Patient: It’s common for children to go through phases of picky eating. Offer a variety of foods without pressuring him to eat. If his eating habits persist or you notice any weight loss, fatigue, or other concerns, consult a pediatrician to rule out any underlying health issues.
