A. For a 2-year-old who isn't yet forming sentences, you can encourage language development with these strategies: 1. **Model Speech:** Speak clearly and slowly, using simple sentences. Repeat words and phrases to help your child learn. 2. **Read Together:** Read books daily and point to pictures, describing them to help build vocabulary. 3. **Encourage Imitation:** Encourage your child to imitate words and sounds. Play games that involve repeating simple words or phrases. 4. **Interactive Play:** Engage in activities that involve naming objects and describing actions. For example, during playtime, talk about what you're doing and ask your child to join in with words. 5. **Expand on Speech:** When your child says a word or short phrase, expand it into a full sentence. For example, if they say “dog,” you might say, “Yes, the dog is running.” 6. **Positive Reinforcement:** Praise and encourage any attempts at speech, even if they’re not perfect. 7. **Reduce Screen Time:** Limit exposure to screens, as interactive play and conversations are more beneficial for language development. If there are concerns about your child’s speech and language development, consulting a pediatrician or a speech-language pathologist can provide personalized guidance and assessment.
