My child is 1 year 1 month old, he is having fever for past 4 days visited doctor he prescribed paracetamol 250 3 ml for 3 days and asked to visit tomorrow, but am worried he is having mild fever 99 to 100. Slightly running nose, he is active and eating fine. Urine output is 8+. What could be the reason for fever

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed .other medicine like mefenamic acid ibuprofen can also be given . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intake his also beneficial. Urine ogutput monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .
