A. Facial and jaw muscle spasms can cause tongue biting during the night. This condition is most commonly seen in children, and often causes the chin to tremble uncontrollably during sleep. People who experience these spasms are unable to control their facial and jaw muscles during sleep, and often bite their tongues.
