A. To determine if your 8-month-old baby's weight is normal, you can compare their weight with standard growth charts or percentile ranges. Here's a guide: Average Weight for an 8-Month-Old Boys: 7.0 kg to 10.8 kg (15.4 lbs to 23.8 lbs) Girls: 6.3 kg to 10.0 kg (13.9 lbs to 22.0 lbs) However, what's most important is the growth trend rather than a specific number. If your baby has been consistently following their growth curve (as recorded during regular pediatric checkups), their weight is likely normal. --- How to Confirm If Your Baby's Weight Is Healthy 1. Check Growth Chart Percentiles: Pediatricians plot your baby’s weight, height, and head circumference on growth charts to monitor progress. A baby within the 5th to 85th percentile is generally considered to have a healthy weight. 2. Observe Milestones and Activity Levels: Is your baby active, alert, and meeting developmental milestones? This indicates good health, even if the weight is on the lower side. 3. Assess Feeding Habits: At 8 months, most babies are eating a combination of breastmilk/formula and solids. Ensure your baby is eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods. --- Signs of Concern Consult a pediatrician if: Your baby’s weight drops below the 5th percentile or shows a sudden decrease. Your baby refuses to eat, appears lethargic, or shows developmental delays. The weight gain has plateaued or the baby isn’t gaining weight consistently. By maintaining regular check-ups with your doctor, you can track your baby’s growth and ensure they remain healthy.
