POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 7 m old boy6 months agoA. If your baby spits up a little milk (whether it's mother’s milk or formula) during or after burping, and says sounds like "uppercurly" or something similar while doing it, it is usually normal — especially in babies under 6 months.
Why it happens: The muscle between the stomach and food pipe (lower esophageal sphincter) is still developing. Swallowed air during feeding comes up with a bit of milk during burping. Overfeeding or lying down right after feeding can also cause spit-up. What you can do: Burp the baby well during and after feeds (every 2–3 minutes). Keep the baby upright for 15–20 minutes after feeding. Feed in a slightly upright position to reduce reflux. Offer smaller, more frequent feeds if overfeeding is suspected. When to worry: If spit-up turns into forceful vomiting Baby is not gaining weight There's green or yellow color in the spit Baby shows signs of discomfort, arching back, or crying during/after feeds
If none of these serious signs are present, it’s generally normal and improves as the digestive system matures. Let me know if your baby is formula-fed or breastfed — I can guide you more specifically.
