A. If your baby is coughing a lot but the doctor has ruled out cold or infection, there could be several other reasons: Dry Air or Irritation: If the air is too dry, especially with AC or heaters, it can cause throat irritation and trigger coughing. Using a humidifier or offering warm fluids can help. Allergies: Babies can cough due to dust, pet hair, smoke, or strong smells. Check if the coughing worsens in certain environments. Acid Reflux: Some babies experience silent reflux, where stomach acid irritates the throat, causing persistent cough, especially after feeding or lying down. Postnasal Drip: Sometimes, mild mucus dripping from the nose to the throat (even without a visible cold) can trigger a cough. Habitual Cough: If your baby was sick earlier, the cough might have become a habit, especially if it's more frequent when seeking attention. Asthma or Bronchial Sensitivity: If the cough is persistent, worsens at night, or occurs after activity, it could be due to bronchial sensitivity or mild asthma. What to Do? Keep the room moist with a humidifier. Offer warm fluids or honey (if your baby is over 1 year old). Check for dust, smoke, or allergens in the environment. If the cough persists for more than 2 weeks, worsens at night, or affects breathing, consult your pediatrician again for further evaluation.
