Q.

My baby is 6 months 11 days old. I have started solids for her. But now her weight is drastically reducing. She even poops after 3 days and earlier when she was on milk, she used to poop 5-6 times every day. Her weight is just 6.5kg. Not sure why her weight is reducing

A. Thank you sir. Our paediatrician told us her weight is fine. However for me the concerning part is her weight loss. Is it something related to myself and my husband being thalassemia minor? Also my mother in law is asking me to put salt in her food as no salt can cause indigestion? My paediatrician has also asked me to add the salt. What to do?

A. it is important for you to know that the weight of the child depends upon the genetic patterns and by that pattern only the weight gain in child is seen. it also depends upon the diet the child is taking. so it is advisable that you should meet the doctor who will tell you whether there is anything to worry or not and whether the child requires any health supplements. the child should be given different flavoursd and recipes made from cereals pulses vegetable milk and fruits daily in small amount. you can add ghee groundnuts dryfruits in the diet and this will help in improving the weight of the child. you can go through many recipes for children in different flavour and taste for your child on firstcry d

A. I'm sorry to hear that your baby is experiencing these issues. It's important to ensure your baby is getting the proper nutrition and to address any health concerns promptly. Here are some considerations and steps you can take: 1. **Consult a Pediatrician**: The first and most important step is to consult your baby's pediatrician. Sudden weight loss and changes in bowel movements are concerning and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. They can assess for any underlying medical conditions or nutritional deficiencies. 2. **Monitor Food Intake**: Ensure that the solids you are introducing are appropriate for her age and nutritional needs. At 6 months old, solids should be complementary to breast milk or formula, not a replacement. Breast milk or formula should still be the primary source of nutrition. 3. **Hydration**: Ensure your baby is getting enough fluids. Dehydration can cause constipation and affect weight. 4. **Solid Food Choices**: Start with easy-to-digest foods such as pureed fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Avoid giving foods that might be hard to digest or could cause an allergic reaction. 5. **Observe for Allergies or Intolerances**: Some babies might have allergic reactions or intolerances to new foods, which can affect their digestion and overall health. 6. **Track Bowel Movements**: Keep a log of her bowel movements, including frequency, consistency, and color. This information can be helpful for the pediatrician. 7. **Weight Monitoring**: Regularly monitor your baby’s weight and growth. Consistent tracking can help identify patterns or issues early on. 8. **Feeding Environment**: Ensure a calm and comfortable feeding environment. Stress or discomfort during feeding can affect a baby’s eating habits. Since your baby's weight is decreasing and she is experiencing significant changes in bowel movements, please contact her pediatrician as soon as possible for a thorough evaluation and guidance.
