Q.

My baby is 5 months old. My sister is taking care of him from past 2 weeks. Now my sister is diagnosed with Tuberculosis. will my child be infected because of her?? Do I need to take my baby to pediatric? My baby looks healthy & active as of now.

A. yes dear its a communicable disease so you can't keep your child with a tuberculosis patient atleast for first three months. after that you can consult your paediatrician and ask for same

A. Baby mother is not infected with Tuberculosis. Baby mother's sister is infected. Infected person is in my house only from two weeks. she had cough from 1 month. Today doctor informed that she infected with Tuberculosis. As she is in my house from last two weeks. I am routing that my baby might have infected because of her. That's why I am asking what type of symptoms my baby show if he is infected.

A. Breastfeeding should be continued in these neonates and isolation is recommended only till mother is infectious, has multidrug resistant tuberculosis or non adherent to treatment. BCG vaccine is recommended at birth or after completion of prophylaxis (3-6 months) in all neonates.
