A. It is normal for a 17-day-old baby, especially if they are breastfed, to have several bowel movements a day. Newborns can pass stools anywhere from several times a day to once every few days, and the frequency can vary depending on whether they are breastfed or formula-fed. For breastfed babies: It's common for them to pass stools frequently, sometimes after every feeding. This is because breast milk is highly digestible, and it moves quickly through their system. Some breastfed babies can have 6-8 bowel movements a day, especially in the first few weeks. For formula-fed babies: They may have fewer bowel movements, around 1-3 times per day, but this can also vary. As long as your baby seems comfortable, is gaining weight well, and the stool consistency is not excessively watery or very hard (indicating diarrhea or constipation), it is generally not a concern. However, if you notice any signs of discomfort, unusual color (like green with mucus or blood), or if your baby seems lethargic or is not feeding well, it would be a good idea to consult with your pediatrician to rule out any issues.
