A. A baby is supposed to be double his or her birth weight by the time he or she is 6 months old. Your baby's birth weight was low so considering that in mind, he or she is doing just fine. Breast milk and formula milk are the only options available till the time the baby completes 6 months of age. Then you can start with solids and semi solids. Always feed the baby on demand. Make sure that the baby empties one breast first before moving on to the next breast as the milk that comes towards the end is hind milk, which is rich in fat and helps in healthy weight gain.
