POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy2 years agoA. The first time you change your newborn's poopy diaper, you might be shocked to see oily, black ooze. Even though it looks a bit alarming, it's actually normal. Your baby's first poops are called meconium. It's made up of all the things your baby drank while in the womb, like mucus, amniotic fluid and bile.If the stool looks very fatty and is unusually large or foul-smelling, the issue could be steatorrhea. Steatorrhea means that there is too much fat in the stool.Mucus in baby poop isn't always cause for concern. The intestines naturally secrete mucus to help stool pass more effectively through the intestines. Sometimes, a baby may pass some of this mucus in their stool without any underlying condition. The mucus can look like slimy streaks or strings. This is called meconium and is made up of amniotic fluid, mucus, skin cells and other things ingested into the utero.
