Q.

My 5 months old son weighs 9 kgs already. What should be the ideal weight, and what is the maximum quantity that a 5 months old should drink? I don't want him to be overweight. His birth weight was 3.1 (39 weeks) and he has tripled his birthweight already.

A. Formula or breastmilk is the most important ingredient in a 5-month-old's diet. According to Infant Nutrition and Feeding, babies should get five or more nursing sessions per day or 26 to 39 ounces (oz) of iron-fortified formula. Some babies nurse more during growth spurts or when they do not feel well.
