Q.

my 3 months old boy has been spitting up very frequently. I feed him both breast milk and formula. sometimes he spits up immediately after feed, or sometimes after 1 hour of feeding as well. I burp him everytime. what could be the reason for this?

A. There should be a minimum of half an hour gap between mother's feed and formula. They should not be fed one after another immediately. Also while giving formula take care of the following. For preparing formula, You should follow the number of scoops of formula and appropriate quantity of water which is specified on the tin. The right consistency should be given so that it doesn't cause any digestive issues. Please follow the mixing instructions as per tin. Also u should only use the same scoop given along with the tin. Level the scoop before adding. If the consistency is not right or there is a overfeed (more than what the baby needs) then the baby may vomit, so take care of those details. You should not heat the formula milk. Also u should give the formula milk within one hour of preparation. Once the baby starts to feed any left over milk should be thrown away. If all these are fine then try reducing the feed amount and feed frequently instead of full feed in one go. Otherwise the spit up could be because of reflux.
