Q.

My 2.9yrs old daughter recently started to the habit of biting fingernails and is also swallowing the same. We tried to stop it by trimming her nails shorter. But still she bites it often. Does swallowing fingernails cause any problem?

A. it can cause trauma on the mucosal membrane which can lead to ulceration and also if the nails are dirty it can lead to gastrointestinal infection

A. no it will not cause any type of problem to the child but at the same time it is important to stop this habit otherwise it will become a major problem afterwards
