POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy5 months agoA. A fever lasting 6 days in a 13-month-old baby is concerning and needs medical attention. Here’s what you should do:
Possible Causes: Viral Infection (Flu, Cold, or Roseola) – Some viral fevers last up to a week but usually improve. Bacterial Infection (Ear, Throat, or Urinary Tract Infection) – Needs antibiotics if confirmed by a doctor. Teething – Can cause mild fever, but not for 6 days. Dengue, Typhoid, or Other Illnesses – If the fever is persistent, tests may be needed. What You Can Do at Home:
✔ Continue Giving Fever Medicine – If prescribed, give paracetamol (like Crocin/Panadol) every 6 hours as per weight.
✔ Hydrate Well – Offer breast milk, formula, ORS, soups, or water frequently.
✔ Lukewarm Sponging – If fever is above 102°F (38.9°C), use a lukewarm cloth on the forehead and body.
✔ Monitor for Symptoms – Look for rashes, cold, cough, loose motions, vomiting, ear pulling, or irritability.
When to See a Doctor Immediately:
🚨 If fever is not going down even with medicine.
🚨 If baby is very weak, refusing food/milk, or dehydrated (less urine, dry lips).
🚨 If there are convulsions, difficulty breathing, or a rash.
🚨 If the fever has lasted more than 5-6 days.
Since it has been 6 days, I strongly recommend seeing a pediatrician as soon as possible to check for any infection that might need treatment. Let me know if there are any other symptoms!
