A. At six months, it's normal for some babies to not yet sit independently. Many babies begin sitting with support between 5–7 months, and sit without support around 7–8 months. If your baby has good head control, tries to sit when propped, and is otherwise active and alert, there's usually no reason to worry. Encourage sitting by giving tummy time, placing toys slightly out of reach to promote movement, and letting the baby sit with pillows or in your lap. However, if by 8 months your baby still can’t sit with minimal or no support, it’s a good idea to consult your pediatrician for a developmental checkup.
