Q.

kid is not well since last 1.5-2 months. first he was getting fever for 8-10days. after 3-4 days , recovering from fever, he complaints of stomach pain, it goes for 3-4 days, he was fine for 3-4 days and now again he complains stomach pain every day, mostly at night. also he is sleeping upside down with stomach not touching the bed from past some days.please suggest what could be the reason and what should we do.

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarmcy sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intake is alfso beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .
