A. Not recommend now a days Only phototherapy is recommended. Every baby develop jaundice after birth Some baby have more jaundice and some have less Only 10 % of baby's need treatment called as phototherapy. In that we keep baby under blue light in hospital only. Increase in jaundice level to phototherapy range May be due to some maternal risk factors Like mother blood group OPositive and baby is not O Positive.or mother is Rh negative and baby is Rh positive. If mother have thyroid or Diabetics etc. If baby born before completed 37 wks of gestation or low birth weight or born with normal delivery and have head swelling ie caput, then There are increase chances of higher jaundice for which we may need phototherapy. Keep ur baby well hydrated Continue with exclusive breast feed Baby should pass minimum urine 6-8 times per day. It will help.

A. I had to admit my baby for phototherapy. Syrup was not administered. And my current pediatrician said it is best not to use that syrup.

A. Was Gardenal syrup effective in your case ? My son has been recommended the same . Reason being, bilirubin level is not high for phototherapy to be done and it is winters in Delhi, so direct sunlight is not possible. Please reply

A. You should consult your pediatrician. After a blood test, If it is mild doctor may advise a direct sun therapy at home. If the bilirubin is high, then ur baby may need a phototherapy. Doctors are advising only phototherapy, I dont think they prescribe that drug anymore. Better to get ur pediatricians advice.
